WOODWIND & BRASSWIND
CATALOG COVERS
All these covers came about after my legendary rise in the department as a Photoshop wizard!
See the WWBW Email Blast page for more about that story.
What is truly cool about these six catalog covers is that they all lined up during the WWBW's 30th Anniversary! I felt privileged to be a part of something slightly bigger than usual.
The String Centre Fall 2007 Catalog was a real welcome change from the previous years' concepts that had displayed very busy covers with multiple products to highlighting only one product.
This cover design strategy seemed to really pay off as the Strings Dept. Manager recommended that I create matching in-house packaging for RenWeiShi violin and viola strings. View those designs here.
The follow-up catalog in Spring/Summer 2008 repeated the same formula of using only one product. These covers really utilized the "glamour shot" showcasing some truly beautiful instruments.
"Susan:
I would gladly recommend you,
and not just for your creative
abilities and graphic design insights. Your personal characteristics of always giving your personal best
in every project is something I will always remember about you. The word “can’t” simply was not a part
of your working vocabulary; you always substituted the word “how” and found a way to make the seemingly impossible into a reality. The smart prospective employer will hire you sooner
rather than later. People like
you just don’t exist in very
large numbers."

After the success of two String Centre covers, I was asked to lead out for the 2008-2009 MasterCatalog. This catalog was over 400 pages and required coordinating with all five other designers on the team to assist with its completion.
The Marching Band catalog cover was essentially pulling several sections from the MasterCatalog and repackaging it for another market. Lots of fun with that one!
“I had the good fortune to work
with Susan on several print catalogs during her time at the Woodwind & Brasswind. Susan was able to take
the presentation of brass products to the next level with new layout ideas. Her hard work was evident with the sales lift we experienced after the
brass catalogs reached our customers. Her work with designing our 30th anniversary logo, as well as graphics that were purposed to be used in
email campaigns played an
important part to the success of
the brass category.”

The Fall 2007 Inspirational Pro AV Catalog was a brand new catalog. I was proud to be a part of its brand by having the idea of the catalog covers show both Audio and Visual products and church-based lifestyle imagery positioned into a "stained-glass" window. What a clever way to work both types of images into the space, if I do say so myself!
The Spring/Summer 2008 Inspirational Pro AV was a follow up on the previous concept in continuing to build this brand with a familiar looking cover.
